At The Fashion Class we teach our students to make amazing garments and accessories, and also teach them ways to promote them as a brand and make it in the Fashion World! But some of our students come to class with some business experience ALREADY under their belt — even at age 6!!
Below are some incredible stories about our students and their totally awesome budding businesses. Check them out!
Leanna is 6 and last year she started Leli’s Magical Stitches, a decorated-pillow business which also specializes in pillow-purses (a plush purse made out of two pillows). Her mother describes it as an experience where she has to “simply shower her with support, and then sit back and watch her inspire the world.” In addition, Leanna has even won awards for her young business!
“Since Christmas Leli has been a Keynote Speaker and Young Entrepreneur Honoree at The Old Field Planters Annual Scholarship Luncheon, and received a Future Entrepreneur Fashion Designer award from the NYS Senate and Assembly. Leli’s pillows are made with the kind of love that only children can give. A portion of all sales go to Prevent Child Abuse NY. ” – Amanda Nesbot, Leanna’s Mom
Lea is also 6 but already has her accessory line for sale in Upper West Side Boutiques! Her customizable, snap-on decorations headband business, Snazzee Apparel, allows customers to change their headband’s decoration every day or even every hour, based on their mood or outfit! All the profits from her business go to her school, Speyer Legacy.
Lea even had the opportunity to hang out with NBC reporter Ben Aaron and the video of their afternoon together is quite hillarious, resulting in Lea designing the perfect headband for Ben. Check it out for sure. We can’t wait to see how she’ll personalize her garments in class!
Emi is 12 and in class she always had a keen eye for the very sophisticated designs, adjusting the projects to fit her vision exactly. She designed this “Mint Lemonade Dress” and produced it on BYCO, a micro-financing website for design which creates prototypes of your submitted designs.
You can purchase Emi’s dresses right there on BYCO’s site, and Emi will get a portion of the profits! In Emi’s exact description of the dress:
Mint Lemonade Dress
This dress features an under layer of fuchsia silk charmeuse, which hits mid thigh, and a mint green silk chiffon over layer, that grazes the ankles. With spaghetti straps and a zipper at the back seem, this dress has a cinched waist that creates a long and feminine figure
I’m so blown away by our students and all that they’ve created! So looking forward to seeing how these businesses grow and expand, especially as our students learn new techniques and skills to make their products better and better!
