As we move into a new season, it starts to feel like a time for a change, a time for something new, especially with your wardrobe!! These great DIY ideas are awesome ways to update your trusty wardrobe staples — denim!
1. Denim Pocket Re-Use
– Take an old pair of jeans and use your seam ripper to take off one (or more!) of the back-pockets. Keep the pocket in-tact, but just remove it from the rest of the pant.
– Pin your pocket onto your shirt or whatever you are adding a pocket to, and then stitch the sides and bottom of the pocket! Make sure not to stitch the top so that you can still put your hand or other things into your pocket!!
2. Distressed Jeans with a Pop!
– Start by using a piece of sandpaper to rough up a few select spots on your pants.
– Then, using an exacto knife (with a piece of cardboard underneath), carefully cut away the top layer of denim from those spots you sanded.
– Then, use a bright sharpie or permanent paint pen marker (again, with cardboard underneath or ideally in-between layers of the pant!) to color in those distressed patches. This is why it’s good to not cut away too much of the denim and try to keep at least the bottom layer of the fabric so you have some substance to color!!
3. Ombre Bleach-Dyed Denim Pants/Shorts
– Take a bucket and fill it with bleach. Then use a ruler or yard-stick and put it through your denim pants’ belt loops to make a solid handle. You could also use a hanger with clips.
– Dip the pants into the bucket of bleach and rest the ruler on the top of the bucket or on some other object to keep the pants from getting submerged entirely in the bleach.
– Leave it in there for at least an hour up till overnight, depending on how bleached white you want your pants to be.
– When you remove your pants, rinse them in water in the bathtub or sink immediately, and then soak the pants in a 2 part water, 1 part (white) vinegar solution for 5 – 10 minutes so that the bleach sets in and doesn’t continue dying everything!

We can’t wait to see what you make!!
