Teen Summer Fashion Design Camp – Midtown

A Summer Fashion Program for Teens in NYC 2013 – Learn what it really takes to be a fashion designer

Concept to Creation™: a fashion design camp for teenagers teaches students all about the Fashion Industry and how to start a clothing line. Students begin by looking at other fashion brands and learn to conceptualize their own brand name, logo and mini collection. From concept to creation our fashionistas will make their collection a reality by choosing fabric, constructing, and sewing their garments and accessories. Next students learn how to take their collection to the fashion market. We will hold a photoshoot, cast models, and create a look book to show to retail store buyers. The camp is not complete without field trips, we will be visiting showrooms and trade shows to see how real fashion companies market their products. Special guest speakers will include press, fashion bloggers, designers, buyers and more.

Each morning through early afternoon (11a-1p) is dedicated to the theme of the week (see below) and the class will visit showrooms, designers, and museums while discussing how to create their clothing line in small focused groups. Last summer we visited the Calvin Klein, Marchesa, Tory Burch, and CFDA Fashion Incubator showrooms along with the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and an Apparel Trade Show.

Each afternoon (1:30-4p) will focus on sewing, design, and draping skills so that students can sew their own designs into actual wearable garments. New students will start from the beginning, learning to sew, while current students hone their skills at intermediate and advanced levels. Students work independently on their own designs with an experienced instructor and assistant.

Group activities include field trips, guest speakers, the fashion shoot, and the fashion show. All students are welcome to participate in the fashion show by modeling their creations or showcasing their line on real models, photos will be provided by a professional photographer, perfect for a student building his/her portfolio for High School or College!

Our classes are small (up to 10) and focused. Our fee includes ALL camp related supplies, materials, and trips. There are no extra fees. Students provide their own lunch, and are allowed to leave the camp facility with parent approval. We’re located in the Garment Center of Manhattan on W39th Street. This is the only fashion design camp for teens where students drape, sew, and create their apparel designs while learning about the fashion industry. Register online today!
