Looking for a sewing machine? There are several machines we recommend that are great for kids and easy to use. The Fashion Class is a Singer Sponsored Sewing Studio. Our students work on state-of-the-art touch screen sewing machines.

Our creative classes for children and teens take place after school and on weekends for multiple weeks throughout the school year. Students learn to sew real and wearable clothing in our signature Fashion Design and Sewing class over an 8-12 week period. Our sewing courses for kids run for 8-12 weeks throughout the school year. Children and teen students will learn how to use the sewing machine while they create real and wearable clothing for themselves! Our Nassau County based sewing studio is on Merrick Road. Sewing courses for kids run for 8-12 during the school year and end with a free fashion show for parents and friends! Students learn on Singer Sewing machines and create real and wearable clothing and accessories. Other design classes like jewelry making and fashion illustration are available too.

When school is out Fashion Camp is in! We offer one-day camps during all school holidays and week-long camps throughout the summer for ages 6-8, 9-12 and 13-17 years old. Our Team

Grazia I - Manager of Operations

Originally from Italy Grazia moved to London after high school. She graduated from the prestigious London College of Fashion with a BA in Fashion, Media, Culture and Communication and started a MA in Fashion & Film.
Curiosity and passion for fashion, costumes, trends & society led her to work alongside renowned costume designers within ITV & BBC London. She also worked as a personal shopper and stylist for private clients and stores; shopping London's best brands and department stores. Besides London, Grazia spent a year in Los Angeles and defined her costume and styling skills gaining a Professional Costume Course Certificate within the LACC Theatre Academy. She also writes for online fashion magazines and began a Photography and Styling agency (www.FashionPhotoStyling.com) with her photographer husband specializing in fashion shoots, product shoots and events.

Florence D. - Studio Manager, Midtown

Florence has a background in fashion visual merchandising, marketing and management of stores such as American Eagle, Urban Outfitters and Old Navy. She attended SUNY Purchase as a Media, Society & the Arts major and has a passion for mixed media art and collage. In her spare time she loves painting, reading and taking her two dogs out on long hikes.

Courtney S. - Studio Manager, Merrick

From a young age Courtney loved fashion, and began to take pre-college classes at F.I.T at age 14. She recently earned her BFA in fashion design from F.I.T. While attending school she interned with multiple childrens-wear companies and worked as an assistant designer at Flapdoodles. In her free time Courtney loves to go to concerts, or can be found lounging around with her cat, Pumpkin.

Angela F. - Fashion Instructor, Merrick

Angela graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a BFA in Accessories Design. Her love for fashion began at an early age, growing up with a mother who was also sewing and doing creative projects. She took her first sewing class at the age of 7 and after that there was no stopping her creativity! She started taking classes at FIT while in High School, traveling into the city from Long Island every Saturday to study fashion illustration and Accessories design. Angela was accepted into FIT’s Accessories design department in 2004 and began working there while she was a student. She currently works there part time as a classroom assistant for college classes in the Accessories Department and also as an instructor for the FIT Middle School program. Angela also does freelance work in the accessories design field including pattern/sample making, custom accessories creation and handbag production for small labels. In the Fall of 2015 she is launching a design firm with her husband Jared Long, an artist and graphic designer, focusing on custom design projects as well as the sale of original artwork and accessories.

Working at TFC is a dream job, “Kids have such a natural desire to want to learn and be expressive. It’s so fun and inspiring to see the excitement they have each week coming to class and the amazing work they are able to do!”

Daisy H. - Fashion Instructor, NYC

Daisy, originally hailing from Maryland, moved to NYC at the age of 17 to pursue what was already then her lifelong dream of becoming a fashion designer. Having only applied to one school, Daisy made sure she got accepted to the Fashion Institute of Technology early admission so that she could start learning everything there was to know about fashion as soon as possible. Daisy started taking sewing lessons at the age of 7 and immediately fell in love with the endless possibilities involved with creating something new and unique. She started her first business when she was thirteen, repurposing old t-shirts into skirts and selling them to friends.
After graduating from F.I.T. Daisy started her own clothing line with a friend, Daisy and Elizabeth, which she has been working on ever-since. When she's not teaching or working on her brand, Daisy enjoys traveling, yoga, going to concerts and of course eating great food!

Lori G. - Fashion Instructor, Merrick & NYC

After cultivating her design skills and southern charm while growing up in Florida, Lori packed up her bags and moved to New York City. She has been designing costumes for theater, performance artists, dance and film ever since. She graduated from FSU with a degree in Apparel Design. From there, Lori designed couture bridal wear under Suzanne Perron, custom dance costumes for Kenerly Kreations and Art Stone Theatrical, and children's Halloween costumes for Rubie’s Costume Company. Her current designs can also be seen on stages and performance artists throughout New York City. She loves taking a concept or character and bringing it to life through her costumes. Anything from ballet dancers to children’s theater to sci-fi aliens, she loves to design and create it all. She also works as a personal wardrobe stylist for independent clients of all ages, body types and occupations.

Whether you need to be fabulously dressed in your regular life or a unique character on stage, Lori will bring that vision to reality! She is also a proud member of the Arts of Fashion Foundation.

Nina E. - Fashion Illustration Instructor, NYC

Nina is an award-winning fashion illustrator and instructor based in NYC. She is also the mother of two lovely children. She graduated from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology with a BA degree in fashion illustration and later received her MFA in illustration from California State University, Fullerton. She has illustrated many fashion and lifestyle books and magazines, including the Candy Apple book series for Scholastic. She also licenses her illustrations to paper product companies, you can find her popular “Accessorized” greeting card and stationery lines at shops such as Kate’s Paperie and Papyrus. Nina has lectured at various art schools including the Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons School of Design, the Art Institute of New York City, Columbia University, the Graphic Artists Guild, and the Children’s Book Illustrator’s Group.She is excited to share her fashion illustration and art design experience with young artists.

Brenda D. - Fashion Instructor, Merrick

Growing up on Long Island, Brenda’s life has been influenced and inspired by her seamstress grandmother. She has been sewing since she was a little girl and by the age of 10, she made up her mind – she would grow up to be a fashion designer and attend the Fashion Institute of Technology to get there. She started taking sewing and design classes at FIT during high school then applied to only that college. Brenda graduated in May 2014 with her BFA in Fashion Design with a specialization in Evening Wear and Bridal and a minor in Art History. Along with sharing her passion of designing and sewing with the kids of the Fashion Class, she works in the Alterations department of David’s Bridal. Brenda is also the owner of an online shop called Brenda Designs, in which she sells customized hand-embroidered pillows, illustrations and handmade jewelry. Her ultimate dream and goal is to have her own label and design and create custom evening and bridal gowns.

Alex S. - Fashion Instructor, Merrick

Alex discovered her talent and love for fashion as a child. She took pre-college courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Urban Wear and Handbag Construction. She later completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Accessories Design and Fabrication at F.I.T. She interned at, and was later hired by Fantasia Accessories in Manhattan. There she primarily designed handbags, headwear, and small leather goods for large retail stores. While doing freelance work, Alex collaborated with fashion designer Danilo Gabrielli to create the winning design for the 30th Anniversary Galaga T-Shirt Contest. The design was shown at fashion week in New York and sold online. Alex also worked for a graphic design company on Long Island where she designed an activewear collection for Nordstrom, as well as textiles for Margery Ellen Baby, and childrenswear for Flowers By Zoe. Many celebrities’ children have been photographed wearing Flowers By Zoe, including Angelina Jolie’s daughter Vivienne. Alex began her own business on Etsy called The Dwindling Hourglass where she designs and produces handcrafted jewelry and accessories. Inspired by jewelry making and wanting to learn more, she took metalsmithing classes at The Art League of Long Island. Alex loves to share her passion for fashion and accessories with her students and encouraging them to express their personality through their work.

Junelle L. - Fashion Instructor, Midtown & Merrick

As a young girl, watching her mother dress to the nines, inspired Junelle. At the age of 15, she honed her skills in fashion design by taking pre-college courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology with an AAS in International Fashion Design, and a certification in Haute Couture. She has interned for American fashion designer Tracy Reese, and is currently working as a freelance fashion and graphic designer. In her spare time Junelle loves to sing, craft and be inspired.

Colleen K. - Fashion Instructor, Merrick

Born in Hawaii and raised in Seattle, Colleen moved to the East Coast to attend SUNY Purchase to pursue a career in Costume Design. After taking courses in design history, draping, patternmaking, and rendering Colleen worked professionally in New York on a wide variety of projects including the fabulous 80’s fashions of Rock of Ages, the elegant period costumes in Broadway’s Cyrano de Bergerac and numerous special events and parties that saw her re-creating Bond Girls or rose covered trapeze artists.

A wonderful thing about costumes has been the ability to know and work with the clothes of many different eras and styles and seeing how they still influence today’s fashions and top designers. In her spare time Colleen plays with modern design and textiles creating modern quilts. Colleen is a proud member of United Scenic Artists Union Local 829.

Elaine R. - Fashion Instructor, Midtown

Elaine studied Fashion Design at FIT and Fashion Merchandising at Youngstown State University in Ohio. She has a passion for creating & loves to sew! It has always been her dream to live in New York, she loves to explore this great city in her spare time.

Meredith A - Class Assistant, Midtown

Native born New Yorker Meredith has always been surrounded by fashion. She started sketching at the age of 7 and sewing at the age of 10 on her grandmother’s sewing machine. Her grandmother worked in the garment industry in New York and would make clothing for her as a child. She always saw her grandmother working on beautiful gowns and that inspired her to start designing her own. She studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology and plans to
graduate with a BA in fashion design with a concentration in special occasion design. She’s also working on starting her own handbag and shoe line. She loves working at The Fashion Class because the kids remind her of herself as a child and she loves to see how they grow as designers. She enjoys painting, life drawing, art galleries, yoga and finding the best places to eat in NYC.

Caroline F. - Fashion Instructor, Merrick & NYC

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Caroline's love for art began at a very young age. As a child, she would spend most of her day with a pencil and paper in hand drifting away into her own imaginative world of art. Her devotion for fashion began during her time in high school where she took a few beginner fashion design art courses. She later attended the Art Institute of New York City where she attained an Associates Degree in Occupational Studies in Fashion Design. Soon after, she landed a full-time position as design assistant at a women's wear line, where she worked for about 2 years. In the Fall of 2012, she decided to complete her studies and entered the Fashion Institute of Technology where she attained another Associates Degree in Applied Sciences. Caroline has recently graduated from FIT, with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in knitwear. She is now working in the sweater technical & design department of a well-known company in the garment district where she is handling sweaters in kids-girls, juniors, and missy markets.

Aaliyah T. - Class Assistant & Intern

Aaliyah was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and began working at The Fashion Class during her senior year of high school through the Futures and Options Program. Growing up, she would always watch admiringly as her grandmother sewed and designed stylish outfits for loyal clientele. Her favorite part of being at work is watching her students' creative minds explode. Aaliyah is currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at Baruch College where she is pursuing a degree in Sociology. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, doing hair and nails and spending time with loved ones.

Kayla C - Assistant, Kids Summer Camp NYC

At a young age Kayla fell in love with NYC and all the style it has to offer. She knew she had to pursue a career in fashion. She is currently a senior at SUNY Oneonta where she studies Fashion Merchandising with a minor in Event Planning. Kayla loves to run in her spare time and enjoys competing for the Track and Field team at Oneonta where she recently earned her third All-American honor in the long jump. She is so excited to work for The Fashion Class this summer and can't wait to see the creative minds of the campers thrive.

Katie B. - Class Assistant, Merrick

Katie is a student at Mepham High School where she is active in chorus and after school as a cheerleader. She spent last summer as a Counselor in Training, overseeing her group in their daily activities, making sure they were all happy campers. Katie is looking forward to continuing to work with kids in a creative environment at TFC!

Nancy A. - Class Assistant,Merrick

Nancy was born and raised in Texas. When she's not in the classroom Nancy is a costume designer and has worked with over 50 theater productions! She has a Theater Design and T.V. Film bachelors from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. She moved to New York on her own to follow her dreams and is inspired by everybody she meets. She enjoys sewing for a living and loves to teach others how to sew.
