Learn to Sew!
October 27, 2011 in Classes, News, Slider, Student Work
In Fashion Design + Sewing class we’ve been learning how to sew garments and create small accessories. We’ve made tote bags, mini skirts, hoodies with animal ears, hair accessories and bib necklaces! Our skirts have an elastic waistband and each is decorated differently using rhinestones, studs, glitter, and ruffles. Our hoodies are made from 100% cotton in polka-dot and floral prints. We added cat or dog ears and even dinosaur spikes to make them extra cool.
Fashion design and sewing is a class for six year olds through thirteen year olds and fourteen through eighteen year olds children and teenagers to learn not only how to sew but how to design clothing. Every two or three weeks we begin a new project, students are given instructions on how to make a specific garment, for example a denim mini skirt. Student size the skirt to fit themselves and after the garment is constructed they have free reign to decorate and design their skirt however they wish. By the end of the class some skirts have ruffles, others are long, some have glitter, beads, or even feathers!
